Welcome

Somebody’s Lion About that Lamb

It occurred to me recently that we should probably update our weather adages to reflect the actual weather we’re having these days. For instance, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” It’s early April and we’re clearly still in the throes of March weather, which is to say it’s intense and variable. So far today alone we’ve had an ice pellet storm, sun breaks, snow, wind and rain.

I could whine about the apparently never-ending cold and damp (no, really, I could) but to what end? No one is happy with the weather, except maybe people in the South, and that’s only until May when hurricane season starts. The sky here in the PNW has been so gray for so long that it’s just not possible to take in enough caffeine to offset the gloom. It’s a real struggle to stay awake during the day.

If we didn’t have weather, though, what would strangers talk to each other about? Politics? That seems like a bad life choice to me. Weather is usually a conversation safe space, but it’s best to avoid bringing up climate change:
Person 1: “Can you believe this crazy weather? It seems so much worse than last year.”
Person 2: “Yeah, you really have to wonder what’s causing it to be so extreme now.”
Person 1: “Really? I’m pretty sure research shows that climate – ”
Person 2: (head explodes)

Anyway, back to that lamb – it better show up pretty soon or have a really good excuse for being late.
